Dabbling, Delivering, Developing.

Most organisations say they are doing something with AI. Far fewer are doing something that matters.

There are three relationships an organisation can have with AI, and they do not overlap. Dabbling: experimenting, playing, no real stakes. Delivering: AI embedded in work that matters, real outputs, real dependence. Developing: building capability, systems and tools, shaping AI to your context.

The two shifts between them are the tests. From dabbling to delivering, play becomes dependence: does it touch real work? From delivering to developing, consuming becomes building: are you shaping the tool, or taking it off the shelf?

Ask where your organisation honestly sits, and the answer usually explains both the enthusiasm and the missing results.
